i have a 4' round dining table, should i buy a 4' or at least 6' round area rug?

i have a 4' diameter round dining table and i want to buy an area rug to put underneath it. should i buy just a 4' round rug or an area rug bigger to even accomodate the chairs when somebody is sitting on it which means that the chair will be away from the edge of the table for about another feet or two.

You need at least close to 8 feet, I lived with a 7’10" ROUND area rug under my 48 inch. Forget the oval and either a 4 or 6 you will have chairs half off the rug. Put your chairs under the table, take a tape measure and check it out. I had hard wood under my table and it was important for me to have the chairs stay on the rug.

sounds like a trip hazard and foodscrap catcher to me – why do you want a rug to destory in this way?

I would say 6′ so it will stick out a little. 4′ may be to small and make the legs wiggle. Good luck :)

Actually one even larger…say 7 or 8 feet round would give 1.5 or 2 feet all around the table when the table is centered. Plus if the table extends it gives some extra clearance for that as well.

now why would you want it be covered then put the chair away from the edge of the table? ..it would be uncomfrtable for the person goin to sit on it… why not go for the 6 and put the chair on the rug.. if not, then have 4

kveld has the right idea. You’ll want a rug in an oval shape to compliment the round edges of your table, but make it longer …measure from the base of the middle of the table and give at least 2 1/2 feet for side, more for length wise.Good luck!

I think you also have to take the size (and shape) of the room into consideration; the larger the better. An eight-foot rug centered under a four-foot table only allows two feet for the chair legs underneath. Guarantee the chairs will be half-on half-off the rug. Can be very annoying…Even a large square or rectagular rug would look fine. Not sure about an oval rug, because it’s shape might still hamper chairs sitting on the longer portion.
